I had a wonderful Christmas 2019 working at the Old Vic Theatre on their production of A Christmas Carol

This smash-hit production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol was adapted for the stage by Jack Thorne. It follows the classic uplifting story of a greedy man who becomes kind and caring after seeing his fate. It is a wonderful production full of high-spirited merriment, festive music, and mince pies...
“Musical direction by Oli Jackson is beautiful” Broadway World
Wonderfully staged my Matthew Warchus, this was the third incarnation of A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic. It also opened on Broadway 2019 in there were more versions planned for around the world. At the moment everything is on hold because of Covid-19 but it won’t be long before the Old Vic can spread its tale of redemption and joy around the world.
“The music making is exquisite” Mark Shenton
Christmas isn’t Christmas without Carols
The music was arranged and composed by Chris Nightingale who has worked with Matthew on numerous productions, Matilda, Groundhog Day and Pride being some highlights. Chris is a wonderful storyteller through music and possesses an abundantly fertile musical imagination. It was a pleasure working with him and tailoring the music and implanting it at the heart of the piece. Scrooge’s redemption in Act 2 remains one of the most moving scenes I have witnessed in theatre and it wouldn’t have had it’s transformative effect without his music.
